Invisalign aligners are a series of virtually invisible clear aligners that are an excellent alternative to traditional braces. At Grand Dental, we provide both general dental care and orthodontic care for our patients, including clear aligners. Invisalign or ClearCorrect are brand names for clear aligners, and we refer to these types of orthodontic treatment as clear aligners.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign’s size and shape are custom-made for each patient. Each patient has their custom treatment plan, and treatment times vary from patient to patient. Wearing your aligners is more comfortable than traditional wires and brackets braces since there are no metal wires required. They are removable and are replaced every 1-2 weeks to move teeth slowly to the desired position via a series of trays. Invisalign aligners are usually more expensive than metal braces, and they are not suitable for complicated or severe orthodontic problems.
Compared to conventional braces, clear aligners treatment:
- Can be faster, sometimes as little as three months depending on the individual case
- Can have more reliable results
- Requires fewer checkups
Invisalign is a great solution for those with:
- An overbite
- An underbite
- A crossbite
- Gap teeth
- An open bite
- Crowded teeth
Invisalign clear aligners are also suitable for people who are looking to straighten their teeth for aesthetic purposes.
Invisalign vs braces:
Invisalign clear aligners are almost unnoticeable
Because the aligners are made of clear material, they are nearly invisible. Compared to traditional braces, which are very obvious, Invisalign means you don’t have to worry about aesthetics.
Because the aligners are made with specialised orthodontic transparent material, you can easily remove the aligners. Unlike traditional braces, this means you don’t have to stop eating your favourite foods. However, you need to wear them for at least 22 hours.
Due to transparent orthodontic technologies, your treatment will be both gentle and effective compared to traditional braces where the pain is common amongst patients.
Fewer visits to the dentist
Because of the nature of the treatment, you only need to visit the dental clinic every six to eight weeks for a checkup. Traditional braces require checkups every three to four weeks.
Plan your smile
With the Invisalign 3D imaging software, we can show you a clear picture of your treatment’s expected results. We can estimate your treatment duration with more accuracy.
Improved oral health
Because the aligners are removable, you can floss and brush your teeth like normal. Traditional braces make caring for your teeth much harder, resulting in poor oral hygiene and plaque accumulation.
How your Invisalign treatment plan is made:
- A 3D image of your teeth is created using a scanner
- Future shifts in your teeth are planned out using computer software
- Your dentist is able to show you what your finished smile will look like
How are the aligners made?
After creating a 3D image of your teeth, your aligners are custom made out of specialised transparent material to ensure a comfortable fit. The aligners are then trimmed to custom fit your gum line to improve the feel and look.
What happens when I get my aligners?
When you first receive your aligners, your dentist will:
- Make sure they fit
- Answer any questions you might have about the Invisalign program
- Let you know what to expect and how to take care of your aligners
