At Grand Dental, we’ve guided many patients review all their options before deciding on a treatment. Over the years we’ve captured all our patients’ Frequently Asked Questions. Everyone is unique and understanding how it suits your own personal situation is very important.
Take a look at Frequently Asked Questions below, and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
The first visit for braces is a consultation to assess what your main concerns are. A full set of records are taken including: radiographs, photographs and study models. The records are used to construct a personalised treatment plan to address your orthodontic concerns. As there are many different ways of practicing orthodontics, and at least three different options would be discussed and provided to you.
Putting braces on is not painful. There is a mild discomfort for the first few days after the braces have been placed. Most of the discomfort is from the pressure of force applied to move the teeth. We generally recommend you to a soft diet for the first week. Orthodontic wax is also available to prevent initial scratching of inside the mouth from the braces and wires.
Orthodontic adjustments are made at 6-8 week intervals where we may change the wires and ask you to wear elastics to a certain pattern.
If your bracket comes loose, we will need to rebond the bracket into position. At times, the wire may also start to move as your teeth starts to straighten. If the wire starts to poke at your cheeks, please make an appointment for a quick adjustment.
